Maa Siddhidatri – The Ninth Aspect of Goddess Durga

Maa Siddhidatri is the ninth form of Goddess Durga worshiped in Navaratri. The last among the nine forms of Maa Shakti is Goddess Siddhidatri who is worshiped on the ninth or final day of Navratri. ‘Siddhi’ is a Sanskrit term which means ‘perfection’. Goddess Siddhidatri has four arms. She holds a Chakra in her right lower hand and a mace in the upper. In the left lower hand there is a conch and in her upper left hand a lotus flower. She is seated on a lotus flower with the lion as her mount.

The Goddess Siddhidatri is capable of giving all sorts of occult powers and is also the possessor of 26 different wishes to grant her worshipers. All these achievements [Siddhi], which according to the Markandaye Purana:- Anima, Mahima, Garima, Laghima, Prapti, Prakaamya, Ishitva and Vashitva are 8 siddhis. As per the Brahmavaivart Purana there are 18 types of achievements which are Anima, Mahima, Garima, Ladhima, Prapti, Prakaamya, Ishitva,Vashitva, Sarvakaamaal,Saadhita, Sarvagynatva, DurShravana, Parkaayapraveshan, VakaSiddhi, Kalpavrushatva, Shrishti, Samharkaransaamarthya, Amaratva, Sarvanyayakatva, Bhavana and Siddhi.
Legend has it that the Supreme God Shiva got all these ‘siddhis’ by worshiping Maha Shakti. With her gratitude the half body of Shiva became that of the Goddess Shakti and therefore he also came to be called as ‘Ardhanarishvar’. Dev, Danav, Gandharva, Kinnar, Yaksh, Manav, all do worship Maa Siddhidaatri and attain achievements. Maa Durga removes ignorance and she provides the knowledge to realize That or Brahman. That is why She is surrounded by Siddhas, Gandharvas, Yakshas, Demons and Gods who are worshiping her. The Siddhi that she provides is the realization that everything is Supreme Being or Brahman. If a “sadhaka” worships in the prescribed mannerwith his full faith he acquires all “Siddhis” and nothing remains unattainable from him in the universe.
Dedicated to Goddess Siddhidatri form of Maa Durga the day is also observed as Mahanavami in many parts of the country. This form of Goddess Durga showers knowledge which makes each soul pure. People can wear Red, White color on this day. On the ninth day Pujan, Archan, Havan, etc of Mataji are performed. Ma Siddhidaatri can be pleased by chanting the above stated Mantra as many time. The Conch shell, Chakra, Mace and lotus in the four hands of Maa Siddhidaatri signifies that she is always anxious to help us.

That is why his half body was that of the Devi and he was renowned as Ardhanareshwar. Dev-Danav-Gandharva-Kinnar-Yaksh-Manushya, all do worship Ma Siddhidaatri and attain achievements. Devi Siddhiratri is seated upon a lotus, surrounded by her devotees, manifests four arms, and grants 8 siddhis–perfections, to her devotees, as well as 18 other benefits. Siddhiratri devi’s famous pilgrimage centre is located in Nanda Parvat in the Himalayas. Special benediction: Most activating of spiritual awareness and consciousness–We see discs of golden light over crown chakras, instilling bhakti–devotional service to the Supreme, and liberation from karmic bindings. The energies of Sri-Sri Sita and Ram manifest fully on the 9th-10th night for the victory celebrations on the 10th day–Vijay Dashani or Dusshera. The 10th day is the victory of Lord Ram over evil and negativity, and the spreading of His Divine Grace in the material world. Offering: 9 oranges or 1 each of all previous 8 fruits and 1 orange; accept and share with opthers in the evening; offer candle/lamp morning-evening. Mentally offer all fragrant flowers, fruits, gems, clothing. This day and night of the navratri should be spent in meditation on her form – even though you may be working – snatching a few moments of mentalsadhna and offering of sindhoor, lotus and chandan physically or mentally will bring fulfillment and satisfaction to you and your family.

सेव्यमाना सदा भूयात् सिद्धिदा सिद्धिदायिनी
माँ दुर्गा अपने नौवें स्वरूप में सिद्धिदात्री के नाम से जानी जाती है। ये सभी प्रकार की सिद्धियों को देने वाली हैं। माँ सिद्धिदात्री चार भुजाओं वाली हैं। इनका वाहन सिंह हैं और इनका आसन कमल है। इनकी दाहिनी तरफ़ के नीचे वाले हाथ में गदा, ऊपर वाले हाथ में चक्र तथा बायीं तरफ़ के नीचे वाले हाथ में ऊपर वाले हाथ में शंख और नीचे वाले हाथ में कमल पुष्प है। नवरात्रे – पूजन के नवें दिन इनकी उपासना की जाती है. इस दिन माता सिद्धिदात्री की उपासना से उपासक की सभी सांसारिक इच्छायें व आवश्यकताएँ पूर्णं हो जाती हैं।
