2015 Varalakshmi Vratam

Varalakshmi Vratam is an important Puja, dedicated to Goddess Varalakshmi, performed by many women in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra. Varalakshmi is another form of Lord Vishnu's consort Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth. In North Indian states Varalakshmi Puja is not as popular as those of South Indian states.

Varalakshmi Vratam falls during Shukla Paksha of Hindu month Shravan and it is observed on first Friday before Shravan Purnima. Shravan Purnima is observed as Raksha Bandhan in most Indian states. Varalakshmi Vratam also happens to be second Friday in Shravan month. Currently it falls in month of July or August in English calendar.

Varalakshmi Puja is performed by married women for the well-being of husband and the other family members. It is believed that worshipping Goddess Vara-Lakshmi on this day is equivalent to worshipping Ashta-Lakshmi - the eight Goddesses of Wealth (Sri), Earth (Bhu), Learning (Saraswati), Love (Priti), Fame (Kirti), Peace (Shanti), Pleasure (Tushti) and Strength (Pushti).

Varalakshmi Vratam is one of the most appropriate days to propitiate and to seek blessing of theGoddess Lakshmi.
Check The Shravan month in a Hindu lunar calendar is one of the most auspicious months and numerous pujas and rituals are held in this month. One of the most important puja in the month is the Varamahalakshmi Puja which held on the last Friday of the Shukla Paksha of Shravan month. Apart from this another puja and ritual dedicated to Mahalakshmi is held on the first Friday of the Shukla Paksha of Sawan month.

In some regions a murti of Goddess Lakshmi is installed on the first Friday of Shravan Shukla Paksha for puja. It is believed that Goddess Lakshmi only visits those houses that are clean. The houses are cleaned and offerings are made to Goddess Lakshmi. In some regions this is a community puja in which women of neighborhood gather in a house and perform the puja.
But the most important puja is the Varamahalakshmi puja. You can find details of Varalakshmi Puja here in this article.
Varalakshmi Vratam date in 2016
Varalakshmi Puja is observed by married women in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and other parts of South India. Varalakshmi Puja 2015 date is August 28. Goddess Lakshmi – the goddess of wealth and prosperity – is worshipped on the day. Varamahalakshmi literally means the boon granting goddess.
The Friday before the Full Moon, or Pournami day, of Tamil Month Aadi is chosen to perform Varalakshmi Puja. The corresponding month in the Kannada, Marathi and Telugu Calendar is the Shravan month.
Worshipping Goddess Lakshmi on Varalakshmi Vrata day is equivalent to worshippingAshtalaksmi – the eight goddesses of Wealth, Earth, Learning, Love, Fame, Peace, Pleasure, and Strength.
The importance of Varalakshmi Puja is mentioned in the Skanda Purana. It is believed that importance of Varalakshmi Puja was narrated to Goddess Parvati by Lord Shiva.
Goddess Parvati wanted to know about a Vrata that is highly beneficial to a woman, which will help her lead a happy and prosperous life on earth. Lord Shiva then mentioned about the Varamahalakshmi Vratam.
